An influential local pastor has been tapped to lead the get-out-the-vote effort in New Jersey’s faith-based communities for a national Latino group that has endorsed Kamala Harris for president.
The Rev. Bolivar Flores, senior pastor of the Ministerio El Sol Sale Para Todos Internacional in Jersey City, was appointed the state’s representative on the Latino Victory National Committee, according to the New Jersey Coalition of Latino Pastors and Ministers.

Flores’ latest work examines the benefits of increased civic engagement in spiritual congregations and outlines variables that impact the civic engagement of Latino congregants: denominational affiliation, pastors’ facilitation of and linkage to civic engagement opportunities, the degree of integration of immigrant congregants, congregants’ rate of church attendance, and the provision of resources and services in both English and Spanish.
The Wealth Disparity Task Force, which was announced on Juneteenth earlier this year, was formally created by executive order Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced.
The 23-member task force, which will advise the Murphy administration on strategies aimed at addressing the various causes and effects of wealth disparity in the state, will be co-chaired by Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver, Department of Banking and Insurance Commissioner Marlene Caride, Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway and Council of New Jersey Grantmakers CEO Maria Vizcarrondo.

The Rev. Raul Ruiz of Union City is the current (and second) president of the four-year-old New Jersey Coalition of Latino Pastors and Ministers.
On Feb. 25 at 10:00am, the New Jersey Reentry Corporation (NJRC) will be joining efforts with The New Jersey Coalition of Latino Pastors and Ministers (NJCLPM) and El Ministerio El Sol Sale Para Todos Internacional (MSSPT) in signing a Memorandum of Understanding in the fight against New Jersey’s opioid crisis. This event will take place at the new Hudson County Reentry Site at 9 Basin Drive in Kearny. The agreement will ensure that clients have access to addiction treatment, structured sober housing, job training and employment, linkage to legal services and healthcare; while churches provide spiritual mentoring to willing participants.

NEWARK, NJ — The Rev. Bolivar Flores, vice president of the New Jersey Coalition of Latino Pastors and Ministers, recently hosted a signing event in Newark for his latest book, “Hispanic Religious Leaders and Civic Engagement.”
Flores – a vocal immigration advocate who has been among the New Jersey advocates decrying “the unjust bussing of migrants to East Coast cities” – appeared at the Newark Museum of Art to discuss his book and best practices for facilitating engagement and partnerships between Latino faith-based organizations and public officials.
At 451 Communipaw Ave, Jersey City, NJ, The New Jersey Latino Law Enforcement Coalition will be launched, where hundreds of Latino police officers from the 564 municipalities of the State of New Jersey will unite with the purpose of taking advantage of all opportunities within the police department.
Elizabeth, NJ - The New Jersey Latino Law Enforcement Coalition was introduced at "The Factory" Restaurant (451 Communipaw Ave, Jersey City, NJ) on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 4 p.m. There are currently 5,359 Latino police officers in the state of New Jersey, according to the Attorney General's Office. The coalition's goal will be to offer vital services, such as recommendations for legal counsel, financial education, equipment resources, and continuing professional education.

And Reverend Raphael Warnock, who holds the same pulpit as Dr. King at Ebenezer Baptist Church, will be sworn in as the first Black Senator from Georgia.
